Reiki (pronounced ray-key) is a Japanese form of alternative medicine known as energy healing. The word "Reiki" comes from the Japanese terms rei, meaning “universal,” and ki, meaning “vital life force energy” that flows through all living things.
Developed in 1922 by Japanese Buddhist monk Mikao Usui, Reiki is now practiced worldwide, including in hospitals and hospices, as a complementary therapy for emotional and physical healing.
During a Reiki session, the practitioner places their hands either lightly on or just above the recipient’s body. It’s believed that universal energy flows through the practitioner’s hands to the recipient, helping to restore balance, encourage healing, reduce stress, and enhance overall wellbeing.

Lisa Fordham – Reiki Master | Townsville
Lisa Fordham is a Reiki Master based in Townsville, trained in the Universal Life Energy Reiki System of Usui Shiki Ryoho.
Her connection to Reiki began in childhood—whenever she felt unwell, her mother, also trained in Reiki, would ask her to lay down and close her eyes. Lisa still remembers the comforting warmth radiating from her mother’s hands, a feeling that stayed with her through the years.
Throughout life’s many ups and downs, Lisa continued to turn to Reiki to support her physical, mental, and emotional well-being. The healing and balance she found through this practice deeply shaped her journey.
Inspired by these personal experiences, Lisa felt called to share Reiki with others. Today, through her practice, she helps clients reduce stress, restore balance, and reconnect with their own natural ability to heal.
